Not "Conspiracy Theorist!" again PLEASE!!!!

BE MORE CYNICAL!!
(Constructivelycynical, of course)

1.The reason why non-Americans like myself don't want to continue to be at the mercy of fossil fuel suppliers - and I'm afraid most Americans just don't know how this feels - is that we in Britain, Europe and most of the rest of the planet will , as with gas/petrol, again be expected to pay 4 or 5 times as much for methanol/hydrogen/hydride as American drivers. In the UK petrol now costs $5.50 a gallon...in the US gas has 'risen' I believe to $1.60 a gallon and they are already practically rioting in the streets. If we have a level price playing-field, ie. US compared to the rest of planet, then sure, I'll buy from BP, SHELL etc.

2. The reason why non-Americans ARE mega-cynical towards OIL companies and ICE-makers is because these HAVE always resisted environmental advances with a VENGEANCE - 100 mpg cars like the production Citroen and Daihatsu listed in the Guinness Book of Records - produced in the late 80's early 90's - where are their even higher MPG successors? What happened to any MPG 'Moore's Law'? Bill Gates has also indeed famously mused on this glaring absence of innovation in the allegedly freely competitive, monopoly-free automotive sector.

Greenpeace couldn't persuade automakers to make the 80 mpg 'SMILE' 5-seater, just as Solectria, the makers of the 4-5 seater 373 mpc Sunrise, can't persuade carmakers to give up their anti-EV KING CANUTE act...Yes, they did finally put catalytic convertors on cars the same way BIG TOBACCO put filters on cigarettes..but both were then let off the health/environmental hook for 15 years or more.

In the States it seems almost unpatriotic (' patriotic' correctness...?) to criticise the arrogant, change-averse and macho-SUV addicted automakers - simply because the car has always been such a central symbol of the American Way of Life. I too am all for the American Dream - but it's time to get really smart and work with nature instead of just ripping it up like there's no tomorrow. This will create more wealth, jobs etc and most importantly end the eternal arguments between those who just love to scream "CONSPIRACY THEORIST!" and those like myself who believe that constructive cynicism has always been the biggest engine of change...
